Look at the map on the far right and locate Fresno, on 99. We took Hwy180 east from Fresno to Big Stump entrance gate. The gate is not labelled on this map but it is very close to where 180 and 245 cross. This bus entered the park just before us.
Just inside the park is a nice starter hike, "the Big Stump Loop" which we did. It is a 1.6-mile loop trail. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 40 min to complete. Notice on the map below this loop trail is on both sides of Hwy 180. Images from this hike are included in the above "Trip Report" link.
Also very close to the Visitors Center (in green letters) is "General Grant" tree/hike. Images from this hike can also be found off the above "Trip Report" link.
One of the best hikes was south/east on hwy198 in Sequoia National Park. On the big map look for another set of green letters, "General Sherman Tree". Images from this hike can also be found off the above "Trip Report" link.
For our last day in Kings Canyon we drove north on Hwy180 and hiked around Hume Lake. At one end of the lake is a rather large retreat and private homes. Images from this hike can also be found off the above "Trip Report" link.
